It is the most emotional context
to assert that I have been privileged enough to get a chance to serve the needy
people of remote and urban regions of India through Sulaxmi Lok Sansthan (SLS),
earlier it was known as The Indian National Trust for the Welfare of Tribals
(INTWOT), which was established in 1996. With the unprecedented support of
locals, central and state governments and funding agencies of India and aboard,
I started awareness campaigns, training camps, land based community action
activities followed by applied research works. I have always been and still
today love to help and support genuine social causes, which give immeasurable
satisfaction to my heart and soul.
My parents faced the perpetual
pains of migration just after the partition of 1947, the big blot on the face
of humanity. I was born in a cluster of Delhi, nourished in inadequate
financial state, realized the nature and temperament of acute poverty of my
parents that used to inspire me to go ahead with full of buoyancy. I took the
lesson of humanity, public welfare, kindness and sympathy from my mother Smt.
Kartar Devi, who died of her various health complications, when I was 19 only.
Her words still buzz around me that instigate my soul… my conscience.
The
wretchedness… the poverty… sorry faces of people and plight of society make me
upset. I hate poverty not poor people. I am to say, to take birth in a poor
family is not a sin but to transfer the same status to the offspring is a big
failure of one’s life. It is a severe crime. No doubt, the next generation can
not justify it. Secondly, being a social animal, a person must take the
initiative to put the needy people of society on the mainstream of
nation.
Since 1996,
under the banner of Sulaxmi Lok Sansthan (SLS), we expanded our footprint into
many provinces of India. Through missions like SULAXMI, SMAVARDHAN &
SANJEEVITA, we took the responsibility to care for the needy communities
of our targeted areas, keeping away the caste, class, creed and race biases,
for their sustainable economic growth with a concrete motive for the real
development of grassroot people.
By and
large, I serve the people for the economic benefit but simultaneously, I take
care of nature and environment. I have great respect and affection for
bio-diversity. The tribal and rural art, the eternal culture of far off regions
and the sentiments of indigenous people, who believe in tradition, amazingly
magnetize me. I have profound fascination for folklore of rural and hilly
areas; similarly the business concern of local marketers is our immense matter
of interest. Folklore, plantation, vermiculture, organic farming, technology
transfer in cultivation, awareness for clean and safe way of life, positive
initiative in the context of climate change, rehabilitation of unwed mothers
and their kids, rain water harvesting and above all financial inclusion are the
essence of our activities.
My prime
objective today is to make our targeted people happy-go-lucky through
micro-lending and various sorts of above mentioned activities. I have no words
to express my gratitude to all those who have believe in my intentions and
responsibilities towards the society. I would like to thank everyone, who
resides in the various nooks and corners of society, this country and
ultimately some Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) donors and other global donors, who
have been supportive towards the SLS.
I would
request each and every person to join hands and contribute in his/her own
little way to curb this menace called POVERTY in order to make our society a
better place to live in. The dream must be fulfilled. Let us join hands to ward
off economical crunch… we must negate the culture of exploitation…with
community spirit. To achieve our goal we have to go together, fight together,
and see the result together but with affection and faith.
