We are pleased to present the development report of the girl child named Asha. Few months back you donated for her livelihood. And we hope we have done a great change in her life. Now she does not cry any more because her guardians have enough of money and great income source to take care of her. Now her guardians never think about selling her .This happened because of people like you who are always willing to make a difference. May god bless you and may your passion to create a difference continue forever. ASHA is now 9. She is daughter of one unwed mother Pano of Baliguda of Phulbani district in Orissa. She was unable to meet both ends to financial cruch. Pano was physically very weak after the birth of Asha since she was emotionally damaged by one young man Prakash Mohanty of Boudh district. Three years back, INTWOT approached Pano. She was given INR Rs.3500/-(US $75) to start any income generation activities. She developed a kitchen garden in her backyard. She was emotionally supported by her parents. Science and technology was provided by INTWOT. Since INTWOT always believes to explore concrete solution of any problem. So, she was given idea to do so. Pano also started poultry and goatry with financial assistance of INTWOT. Asha has been provided with a good nutritional diet; all weather garments, study material. Beside all these, Pano purchased one cow worth Rs.7,200 (US $154). The money was given by INTWOT. Now, Asha is student of class III. Pano is leading a very comfortable life. She prefers to see forward in place of by gone days nightmare.Being pregnant and not married is a hardship in India. As you know, INTWOT has been rescuing orphaned children in India for about three years. Now they are also helping unwed mothers. In Debipur of district Kalahandi of Orissa, one Baby is being nourished by Radha. She is 1o months old. Her mother has left away to somewhere after 9 days of her birth. Now she is traceless. Baby is malnourished. Who is her biological father; this is a big curiosity for all. Debipur is a small village about two hours' drive from Bolangir. You have to be tough to negotiate the hilly tracts of teak plantations and rough roads that cut through hills. A river contributes to its scenic beauty. The place is special for another reason too. Here, the one Baby has been left by her mother named Salia as there was no name of her father. Salia is an unwed mother. It is taboo to be pregnant and unwed in this country. When her mother left her alone in a backyard, it was month of March, when scorching sun was licking the earth. Radha listened the weeping sound of a baby, she received her, when her breath was irregular. This is very common in Orissa that the boys promise any girl to get marriage. She was also promised by her lover, he also convinced her that he would have a house together. She handed over herself to him. Her story is common--boys tricking girls into sex with the promise of marriage. It is a strong lure in this tribal society, where marriage often equals success and security. But what happened with Salia, but life of Baby is full of man made uncertainty and catastrophe at every step of her life. Her weight is only 1256 gm with pencil thin body. Radha is identified as BPL (Below Poverty Line) by the district administration. So, she is unable to feed her both ends. Now, winter is coming. How can she save her from strong wind of winter, she trembles. She needs your help. The government is unable to help that tiny tot since there is no provision to provide her any support. Photographs of Baby has been attached. Together we can make a difference. Please visit our website www.helptribals.org. Thank you, Regards, Volunteer Team INTWOTBalram Bhoi: Resident of village Dahikhal of Lanjigarh block of district Kalahandi. He is 7. Having dark complexion, brown eyes and hair, normal body structure. His mother Rukamani Bhoi (22) was conceived by a businessman of Sambalpur, Orissa. The story of her mother is very painful. She was a wage laborer, did get Rs. 23/-($0.50) daily. She was attractive. Her blue-black-tawny face was more than enough to lure someone. It happened. There was an amorous brat who began to hum around her like honeybees that resulted into attraction, conversation, affection, interaction and ultimately sexual relation. It lasted five months, the locals reported. In due course, biological process started. She realized her breast, having dark circle around the tits, got immensity. Vomiting, chubbiness and laziness kept on covering her since she was conceived. The lover vanished. Traceless. Balram born when she was 15. Nobody came to console her. Sarcastic words, acerbic speeches, taunting way of talk by the near and dears happened to part of her life. He did not go to school. Last year, he was adopted with special intervention of INTWOT. Now, he is getting education including other facilities provided from our side. Rukamani Bhoi is started leaf plate making work and getting at least Rs. 65/- (US $1.5) daily. The seed money was provided by INTWOT. Photographs of Balram has been attached. Together we can make a difference. Please visit our website www.helptribals.org. Thank you, Regards, Volunteer Team INTWOT Bharati (4) is daughter of Banita of Hathikhoj village of Kurlamunda block in Kalahandi district of Orissa. Banita is an unwed mother. Since Orissa was in the news recently because it had an unprecedented number of young unwed mothers between the ages of 14 to 20. Shunned by society and rejected by their families they are allegedly falling into the hands of traffickers and an estimated 3000 girls are missed every year. Apparently they had been promised marriage and a good life, so the same story happened with her. She came into contact with one man called Budhu of Kyonjhar district of Orissa. He came to this locality to know the feasibility of oil trade as this area is well know for sunflower cultivation in Western Orissa. Banita was a wage labourer. She came close to her and they began to love each other. Meanwhile, she became pregnant. Budhu promised her for marriage. But he silently departed somewhere. She gave birth to a female kid. Banita has no way of life. The baby is growing. Migration is the fate of locals. How can she migrate ---- she is helpless. Nobody is assisting her. Who will take care Bharati. She is malnourished. She requires nutritional diet. But there is no hope. Every year, 86,000 kids are died due to malnutrition. She might be one of them. She needs your help. To know more about Bharati, you may feel free to contact her round the clock. Photographs of Bharti has been attached. Together we can make a difference. Please visit our website www.intwot.org. Thank you, Regards, Volunteer Team INTWOT We are pleased to present the development report of the girl child named Gudiya. As you know, in Orissa, which is one of the most backward and challenged states in the country, the number of unwed mothers is more than 40,000. What is more, the number of such young women is steadily on the rise. The perfect balance between civilization and development which is promised by the socialist state still does not have any solution for the justice and rehabilitation of such oppressed girls. Whenever the issue of such modern women uprooted from their families and society comes up, the legal terminology of adult and non-adult or that of mutual consent tends to let the offenders get off in the ensuing confusion. These legal loopholes have filled the hearts of these poor girls with despair and the ministries and government seem to be helpless too. Due to these reasons, the plight of unwed mothers and their children is a matter of deep anguish. In Basmatipur of Bhawanipatna block, one can easily meet one tiny tot Gudia, the daughter of one unwed mother named Ambika Pradhan, who was pregnanted by her close relative named Byas Dev Pradhan 5 ? years back. She was lured and one night he gave her two chocolates in black color (as she reported to local police station and the same complaint has been registered in FIR dated 2/01/2001) when her mother and father was somewhere to participate in marriage ceremony. He established thrice physical relation and this became the routine. She could not dare to expose this reality. There is no awareness to think over the outcome of such relation in regions like Kalahandi, widely publicized as the home to drought, starvation deaths and instances of child selling. She should have told this to her mother, says a senior lawyer of Kesinga. In order to get the answer, one must rewind through time and see the pain and pangs of such lured girls by their lovers or close relatives. In terms of love and sexual relation, she was down to the ground unknown with this hard reality as life was going to be synonyms of deep sorrow and anguish. She did know love was ultimate mission of human being in many forms. But she conceived which was unreliable. In fact, he misguided her. He was already married. He has two kids. He kept on promising her for marriage. She was pleased with one female baby in local hospital on November 11,2001. He was so caring, says Simanchal Pradhan, father of Bishmita Pradhan. But he denied for marriage. He is son of my sister, so I requested my sister. If he disagrees we will be ruined moans her mother. But no body bothered to listen their words. According to a statement lodged in FIR, when her pregnancy was in advance stage, she sent a letter to her lover, who is resident of Deypur village, 4 km away from Basmatipur, through one Sunil Mishra. But he did not come. Two months thereafter the accused came and told her to go to Sambalpur with him. She rejected her proposal as the accused was already having a wife and two kids. He presented a nighty and petticoat and admitted her in government hospital at Bhawanipatna. She gave a birth to a female child and since the accused denied to accept her. The grievances went to the doorstep of judiciary. The learned counsel for the defense submitted his arguments to the Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Assistant Session Judge, Kalahandi, Bhawanipatna (S.C. No. 50 of 2002). But as ill luck would have it, there was in ordinate delay in lodging FIR i.e. about 12 months. She did not complaint about this relation for a long time. She was above 16, capable to know about the resultant effects sexual intercourse. In medical term, she enjoyed this relation as also mentioned in FIR the victim could know that she was enjoyed by the accused on the previous night but out of the shame she did not disclose the fact to any body including the police and her parents and she could know about her pregnancy through accused 4 months later. As per the provision of section 376 IPC, it is necessary that the accused must have committed sexual intercourse with the victim against her will and without her consent. She informed the police after a very long gap. So, no case of rape was made out. Ultimately, the court opined that the prosecution has failed to prove its case against the accused U/S. 376 IPC and hold the accused not guilty of the said offence and acquitted him U/S 235 (1) and his bail bond canceled on 20th September, 2004. She fainted. It was like a thunder bolt. She committed suicide. It was a great setback in the dawn of Gudias life. The destiny orphaned her. Gudia is still unknown with this fact that tribals girls have been at the exploiting end from every direction, even as they have been deprived of the benefits of state welfare. She was helpless and a sense of inferiority covered her. INTWOT targeted Gudia for her rehabilitation. It was a very hard task to convince the donors regarding her sorry plight. On our part, we clarified all aspect of the saga of unwed mothers as the lure of a few extra rupees, colourful sarees and skirts and the desire to marry and live out the fantasy of an urban life have turned the women of these regions into commodities of people lust. The volunteers also clarified that this is the reason why the keepers of social development manage to snare them and use them for their bodily desires too. As a result, those agents who are out to raise their awareness and empower them are also busy cutting out a portion of the tribal girls identity for themselves. INTWOT conducted a research with The Indian Council of Social Science Research, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India regarding this issue. While collecting data for this project, we have come across many incidents, which makes it clear that those even bureaucrats who pose as agents of democracy do not shy from exploiting these women. The Kalahandi district administration confesses that elderly and senior citizens posing as teachers have added to the sexual exploitation of these daughters of the forest. INTWOT is not a type of agency that does research for showcasing only. Among many children from unwed ladies INTWOT selected Gudia as MOST NEEDY Child. The reason she is a GIRL. FATHERLESS(?). MOTHERLESS. We made an appeal to donors to help her generously and have received $790 till date. INTWOT believes in a common sense that Gudia is not able to take care of herself on her own. Her maternal grand father Mr. Simanchal Pradhan is most probably the right person to undertake her growth responsibilities. But if we give a close look Simanchal Pradhan is a man who saw his unmarried daughter pregnant. The man who fought for her legal rights. Who sold his only 1.5acre land property for this right. Who saw his young daughter dying. Who tolerated injustice (?) of the court. Who is at the age of 4 worried to marry his next daughter is unable to give proper upbring to Gudia without having external support. As he is having natural emotions for his daughter-in-law thus, INTWOT decided to support him first so that financial soundness not only help him in good upbringing of Gudia but also in coping up of social humiliation with this view. INTWOT provided some technical support to him in his agriculture activities. We provided best variety of seeds of rice (worth US $86) to him. INTWOT provided one cow (worth US $295) of refined breed to him. Besides it, Simanchal Pradhan was provided two pairs of goat (worth US $60 ) apart from some fowls (worth US $ 17 ). Now, we have managed some garments (US 34) for Gudia. INTWOT provided her nutritional diet (US 49) to her and some toys as well. Furthermore, some pictorial books (US$ 21), colour boxs-pencil-umbrella (US$ 34) and many additional things have been given to her. She is setting medical check-up by the local doctors every alternate month. She is healthy. However, she recalls her mother from time to time and becomes so sad. In next lot, INTWOT will provide her woolen clothes, shoes, sleepers and etc. (worth US$ 35 to 40). The child has started growing an innocent smile can be seen on her face. Now the time for good education (so that she could get smart enough to face the hard world) is coming near and generous donations are required to fulfill ones life i.e. Gudia. We are pleased to present the development report of the girl child named Gulabi. Gulabi a nine year girl always tries to understand the mistake of her mother Yashodhara, who is an unwed mother of village Shishakhal of Kalahandi district in Orissa. It is said that she loved a young person Anil Kumar Mohanty, a trader of Minor Press Produce (MPF) of Raipur chattisgarh. She established physical relation and it continued for a very long time. She gave birth to one female baby but defected simultaneously. He did not come so far. Her life was full of pain and pangs. She tried her best to explore suitable avenue for better life. But destiny kept on playing its own role. Meanwhile, INTWOT identified her and provided some financial and technical support for her sustainable economic growth. She received Rs. 14,000 (US $350) from INTWOT and started a bamboo basket work. The business began to run very well. She was given Rs.3600 (US $ 80) for poultry farming that was resulted her regular income. Gulabi is student of class 5 she bonds of oriya literature specially poetry. She was provided woolen clothes, shoes, sleepers, umbrella study of class 1st . Now, Yashodhara is coming after Gulabi with special care our all kind position support has turned her full of happiness. She is going to support micro-credit banking in her locality as INTWOT selected her for this cause Haldi, is a remote village, 26 km. Away from Kalahandi, District Headquarter Bhawanipatna. The life of this village is purely traditional. Here ST and SC people reside with accepting all type of problems, which make their life full of pain, pangs, and problems. Here you can meet a 5 year old boy named LALIT. His mothers name is Mahua, who is wage laborer. When she was only 16, her love blossomed around Holi festival when the entire atmosphere was imbued with several colors. She does not like to mention of his name, we requested several times He did not lure her but only proposed for marriage. The proposal was so impressive and intensive, she could not deny but did not accept. In addition to this, they began to meet everyday. Their meetings converted into deep relations that ultimately melted into physical relation. Both enjoyed for a long time until she conceived. He did not deny and kept on saying for marriage but he was waiting for some good news in his business. She recalled that night, when he was returning from Bhawanipatna by motorcycle. He stopped. Some tear drops rolled down over his face. She hicks up and say, He met with an accident. His motorcycle collided with a van at high speed that resulted into spot death. It was head injury. It was really thunder bolt over her fate as the embryo was four month old. The doctors denied destroying her pregnancy. She had two options, to commit suicide or to accept this reality as her destiny. She selected the second one. The news of her pregnancy spreaded like wildfire. But, nobody dared to tease her since everyone witness that spot where demon of death played his cruel role and ended life of her fiancé?. The parent of Mahua brought up LALIT. When he began to walk on his feet, she started to work as a wage laborer. She earns US $ ? everyday that is always uncertain. LALIT doesnt know the name of his father. He is a student of class 3. His mother doesnt earn sufficient amount for his proper nourishment. LALIT has only two pair of clothes that is worn and torn. He eats boiled rice both times. He never consumed cow milk in his life due to lack of money. The local Aaganwari is always found locked. That is why pregnant women or the children are not getting any facility, provided by Woman and Child Development Department. At present, LALIT requires your help. He is a malnourished kid, who can be trapped by any disease since his body resistance is so weak. INTWOT has provided some nutritious food to LALIT and now planning to provide concrete source of income to his mother. If you can adopt LALIT, he might be provided nutritious food, all weather garments, toys, and stationary goods including shoes, sleepers and umbrella. His mother will be attached with our income generation programme with your money. She might be provided some fowls, goats (male and female) or ducks for their better future. Fearing social stigma, a 25-year-old unwed mother sold her newborn girl for Rs 600 in Bhawanipatna village in Kalahandi, Orissa, and disappeared after the incident. Kusum Majhi handed over her 20-day-old baby to Dhanu Nayak, a rickshaw-puller, on Thursday and disappeared after the incident came to light, sources said. Majhi had approached Nayak to adopt the baby on "compassionate grounds". Nayak, who has an eight-year-old son, consulted his family members before agreeing to keep the baby, the district administration said in a statement. But at the time of accepting the baby, Nayak obtained a written statement from Majhi stating that she had sold the baby to him to "obviate any future legal complication", it said. "Dhanu has, of course, paid some money to her admittedly not for purchasing the baby but for helping the woman and her mother to go back to their village," the statement said. In all probability, it seems the fear of social stigma prompted Kusum to get rid of the newborn baby, their whereabouts are not known either to their relatives or neighbors. Now she requires you help. The rickshaw puller is kind hearted but it is hard for him to feed that fate less baby. Your donation may be life force to this baby, who hails from India, where it is proudly said, Bachhon ki muskan rashtra ki shan, (baby's smile is national pride). You help may bring happiness in her life. You can go through the news of this baby in redifmail.com (http://ia.rediff.com/news/2004/oct/17oris.htm). We are pleased to present the development report of the male child named Prashant. Few months back you donated for his livelihood. And we hope we have done a great change in his life. Now he does not cry any more because his guardians have enough of money and great income source to take care of him. Now his guardians never think about selling him .This happened because of people like you who are always willing to make a difference. May god bless you and may your passion to create a difference continue forever. PRASHANT Jani (9) is the only son of Bidya Jani of Pasticudi village of Narla Block of district Kalahandi. He also does not know the name of his father. As his mother got pregnant when she was only 17and a unmarried girl. Without getting married, to become mother is the stigma of Indian civil society not in tribal community. Sex is not taboo among the aboriginals but at this era, it is very impossible to get marry for any girl who cant even take the name of her childs father as she has been cheated by him. This is the reason Bidya had to face a lot of hardship. She is recalling her by gone days, when she came into contact with young man Dibakar Mohanty, who was said to be resident of Rayagada. He was a contractor. They began to love each other and she conceived when Prashant born, Dibakar left this place. Bidya was alone and helpless. She was deaf and dump as the sulphuric words of her neighbour kept on hitting her without any cause. Each day was like a dark dream for her. Then with special initiative of INTWOT, she started poultry with seed money with INR Rs.3000/- ( US 55) that proved boon for Bidya. Now she has good earning in every month and she is easily feeding her son Prashant. On the other side, Prashant is getting education in a local primary school. INTWOT is providing all study material, day-by-day requirement, garments of all weather as well as the good nutritional diet. We are pleased to present the development report of the girl child named Rekha. Sadani Nayak of Belkandi village of district Kalahandi was cheated by her lover when she was carrying two month old embroyce in her womb. He used to love her from inner core of his heart but everything was proved futile when he rejected her, when she told him about her pregnancy. It was great catastrophe for her. She give birth to a Female Kids who is rekha, now he is 8. Sadani faced a lot of hardship in her life when she was dejected by him. She spent two month in a short stay home at Baliguda district Phulbani. Hereafter, real life started with its own color, tone and time. Bread became dream for her and her daughter there was on solution before her. Nobody was taking care of her & she was alone. She moved from pillar to the post but challenges kept on appearing day by day in more worst shape. Meanwhile, INTWOT identified her and consoled her to get rid off from the whirlpool of depression and frustration. She was given Rs. 11,000/- 5 years to start leaf plate making work. It was seed numey. She purchased raw materials and managed to work with two other female associates. The attempt proved fruitful. Meanwhile rekha was provided nutrional food including some toy. Now Sadani was earning appropriate amount to look after her daughter. Rekha is a student class 3 and received study materials (stationary) garment, shoes, umbrella including woolen clothes. Now, Sadani is earning sufficient income that is more than enough for both of them
