Objectives

The objective of this study was to develop an information system to support development of indices in consonance with the requirements of global urban observatory for monitoring the implementation of the habitat agenda and to assess the type and periodicity of data available and generated in urban centers.

Description of initiative in brief

This study conducted to present the situation on the bases of the standard format made by TCPO. The Questionnaire covers six key areas identified by UNCHS namely Shelter, social Development and eradication of poverty, environmental management, economic development and governance and international cooperation. The study was based on the primary data, secondary data, visual analysis and the report format is in accordance with urban indicators programme.  There were many findings from the project like: Decadal growth rate of population in Sonepat town (50.22) is more than that of Faridabad (31.51), Crime against women is more in Sonepat due to unawareness of laws. In this study, we find big gap between demand for and supply of drinking water, immunization, sewage disposal, blood requirement, sanitation, ambulance/fire services, toilets, housing/transport requirement, electricity and job. With above all the medical facilities are also in very poor condition. Some suggestions given with the study report like: the activities of government and NGOs must be encouraged, and the research findings and information dissemination should be made public.
